Soft Boiled Egg: What do you call it?

I call it dippy egg.  I’ve been trying to work out how to best do them because I haven’t found a perfect method that makes the yolk soft in the middle but the white of the egg firm.  I asked on my Facebook page and there were heaps of tips and ideas.  So many different ways, in fact, that I may have been more confused than ever! You can read the feedback here

I ended up picking one of the methods mentioned on the thread, aka Heston’s method (found a little video here).

  1. Put a egg from the fridge into a saucepan with tap water.
  2. Bring to boil and immediately take off the heat.
  3. Cover with lid and allow to sit for 6 minutes.
  4. Remove and eat immediately.

Tip: if y0u have more than one egg to cut, put the others into cold water so they stop cooking

Worked for me!

What do you call them? I’ve heard them called:

  • soldiers
  • eggs and soldiers
  • dip dip egg
  • dunk dunk eggs
  • a boil of egg
  • dippin’ in eggs
  • googy eggs and soldiers
  • chucky eggs
  • runny eggs and soldiers
