I have BIG news to share! In two weeks, I’ll be on my way to India. India! Can you believe it? I’m honoured and humbled. I’m both excited and terrified.
As the crow flies, it’s 10, 200 kilometres from Brisbane, Australia to New Deli in India.
Together with Eden from Edenland, Carly from Smaggle, Mischo Baranovic and Joy from World Vision, I’ll be visiting visiting different parts of India, to see first hand, the innovative development and inspiring community driven change fostered by World Vision projects.
This is an opportunity to use my blog to give a voice to others, and that thrills me. What an honour! It also scares me. I feel a burden of responsibility to get it right. To say it right. But, as always, I’ll come back to telling stories of truth. Because, I can do that.
I’m also feeling nervous about leaving my children. Oh, I will miss them! They will be fine, I know (in fact they are excited about staying with their Aunties); I’m leaving them with people who love them, and who I trust, but I’ll be so far away. You never stop being a mother, even when you’re kids aren’t with you.
Mothers. Children. Yes, this is my heart, and if raising my voice can improve the life of one child, and one mother, that’s where it all starts. Because seeds grow.
I’m just one girl. I’m not remarkable, or important. I’m not a journalist, or social worker. I’m not representing media and I don’t have a fixed agenda. I’m just one girl, but I’m going to India and I’m taking you with me through stories and pictures. To tell stories that are, so very often, forgotten by mainstream media.
Come with me
I plan to blog while I’m over there (when I can), and so I’m asking all of you, is there a particular topic you’re interested in me covering?
It’s happening
Travel vaccinations are done, my Visa is in and I’ve started packing. It’s really happening!
What do you think????

Thanks for your lovely support, as always, Nic.
My husband and I went to India last year so I’ve got a couple of suggestions of things to take… Take baby wipes, water in your suitcase (it can be hard to get as soon as you arrive so it’s good to have some with you)’ a small pillow, mozzie spray and gastrostop. Have an amazing time!
Sue, thanks so much for the tips. Especially the baby wipes…I didn’t think of that.

Travel safe. x
Hey Claire. I know I can speak for all the bloggers going in saying, that it just makes SUCH a difference having the support from people like you. I feel like crying in a way, when I think about us all together…not just the bloggers, but us all in this space…it just feels so real, and true…People talking with people. People encouraging people. Not sure if that makes any sense, but…just thank you.
That’s so exciting! A friend of mine recently went to the Phillippines, she has two young children, one preschooler and one in kindy, and for every day she was away (2 weeks) she had a wrapped present and letter for them each. She said they never even had one day when they were upset that she was gone! Everyday they had something to look forward to from Mummy, and it really kept their connection alive. Hope that helps!
Oh Sue, thanks so much for that. I just love it. Wonderful idea!
Hey Kelly! You are doing a wonderful thing. Of course you will miss your kids but they will be so proud of you and what a great example you are setting them.
Also, you are remarkable and important!
I can’t wait to read all about it!
Awww, thanks Sam. When this came up, I asked me 11-year-old what she thought about me going…and if she felt happy about it…and you know what she said? She said, “Mum, I’ll miss you but I really love it that you can have these adventures. I mean, we get heaps of adventures as kids, and I’m glad you can have adventures too.” Bless her heart! x
Totally bless her heart!
That is wicked. She gets it. Well done you.

So exciting!!! I am also off to India on the 20th November and cannot wait!! Totally understand the feelings with leaving the kids..experiencing them here as well..although I know that they will be fine, Gods in control! Just have to let go of that worry and mothers guilt! Hope you have an awesome time and see some great things!
I needed that word of encouragement. Thank you Alana. Where are you going? And why?? How exciting!! We will be there at the same time I think!!
we are flying into Mumbai and then flying to Raipur and then driving to Narangyapur. We are staying with an Indian family and really just going to see what they do, they have a church and also a children’s home. Will be going into the villages etc..we are hoping to help them start up a health program with the villages and the children’s home.
Oh, how wonderful! Would love to know more about how you went when you’re home again. x
