{Suda Sudarsana talks about the new destination inspired Ambi Pur Air Effects range}
I’m not particularly interested in science but I could listen to Suda Sudarsana, Procter & Gamble (P&G) fragrance expert, talk all day! He’s so obviously passionate about his work and it’s infectious! At breakfast, as I looked over Thailand’s sparkling sea, Suda talked about three new destination inspired scents in the Ambi Pur Air Effects range.
Destination Inspired Ambi Pur Air Effects Air Freshener
In stores now. RRP $5.99
New Zealand Springs
New Zealand Springs is a perfect likeness of the fresh outdoors captured in a bottle. This scent features a blend of white peach and red grapefruit with gentle hints of golden amber and oakmoss.
Thai Dragon Fruit
Thai Dragon Fruit is inspired by the exotic fruit of Thailand. This this new scent will awaken the sense and leave a fresh and lightly topical fragrance throughout the home.
Hawaiian Flowers
Hawaiian Flowers draws upon Hawaii’s abundance of beautiful fragrant flowers like freesia and jasmine with an eclectic mix of flavourful juicy pear, melon and succulent pineapple.
As I lifted a hot cup of tea to my lips, I jotted down a particular thing Suda said.
Scent is closely bound up with memory.
I had not thought about it before, but realised how true this was! I spent some of my childhood years in Papua New Guinea and sometimes, I will have a flashback, like I’m back there. I know it’s to do with my sense of smell and I wish I could capture it because my childhood was amazing. I spent many hours each day playing and exploring the environment. I have wonderful memories of my childhood, and since my mum died, I’ve been recalling many of the happy times we had together.
Later, I interviewed Chandler Burr, consultant for Ambi Pur, and he confirmed the role scent plays in regards to memory.
“I think scent is very, very viscerally felt, and so I do think it’s hugely important [for creating memories].”
{My cat Tiger and I in Papua New Guinea}
Interview with Chandler Burr
To read the entire transcript of the conversation I had with Chandler Burr, consultant for Ambi Pur, click here: Interview with Chandler Burr about Ambi Pur and Scent. In the interview, The Former New York Times Perfume Critic gave me wonderful insight into the sophistication of these new scents.
“[Ambi Pur] are providing you with something more than just a feeling; they’re providing you with a destination, an experience.” — Chandler Burr
Hawaiian Flowers: Alexander McQueen, John Galliano and Vivienne Westwood – that opulent demand they make on your sense of sight; the “Look at me!” That is very much is a visual analogue of the Hawaiian flowers scent. The hibiscus has a huge presence and it says, “Here I am! This is what I am! Pay attention!”
Thai Dragon Fruit: The Thailand dragon fruit scent is much sleeker. The beauty lies in the materials and the beauty lies in the subtlety. I think designers like Armani and Tom Ford rely on subtlety, not on wild cuts; they rely on the beautiful fabrics that are used. They don’t need to draw attention to themselves.
New Zealand Springs: With the New Zealand scent, I would say it’s like T-Shirt, Jeans and good pair of hiking boots.
What an exciting concept for home fragrance!
What was I doing in Thailand?
What was I doing in Thailand? Well, really, I was there to have an amazing experience, so who was I to argue? I lapped up ever single moment with an inspiring bunch of women. Below are some of my experiences.
Day one: Travelled, Hawaii-five-0 style on a boat to a glorious beach. The air was humid and rich with weight. I walked the stretch of white sand dotted with splashes of colour before swimming in the tropical blue water. This experience gave me a wonderful representation of the gorgeous beaches of Hawaii.
Day two: Ate Thai Dragon Fruit at breakfast. It really is a stunning fruit to look at! Later, I attended a Thai cooking course (recipe here). I loved experiencing some of what the Thai culture had to offer.
Day three: First ever elephant ride. The ride ended close to a cascading waterfall. The water was loud as it crashed down the rock face. There was mist in the air that sat lightly on my body, leaving me feeling refeshed, despite the humid heat. The waterfall trip was inspired by the rugged and beautiful openness of New Zealand.
I was only in Thailand for three full days but it felt much longer than this. Time seemed to slow as I drank everything in while I was transported to the different and inspiring environments.
My attitude towards scent has changed. In my own home, I’ve discovered its power to remove odour, create atmosphere, enhance comfort, express personality and inspire destinations. Also, I’ve come to appreciate the role scent has to play in recalling and making memories. I want to go to New Zealand, Thailand and Hawaii but until then, I’ll remember through my experiences linked with scent.
“It’s a moment, and it’s a wonderful experience. It marks time.” — Chandler Burr

Have enjoyed your posts about your trip, Kell. Sounds like you had a fabulous time. Those images are gorgeous. x
Thanks Kell. It was a wonderful experience. Missed the kids like crazy though…
I am such a convert. LOVED reading about your trip, you lucky devil. When I mentioned the idea of a New Zealand smell to lovely husband, he retorted “it just smells clean, like fresh air”. Errr, yeah….LOL!
BAHAHA! Tell him to get some imagination already! To me, the New Zealand smells like green. Wide open green grasses. Then you get a hint of the peach.
I would love to try these too!!!!!
these look fantastic and i listened to a previous post to yours about scent, bought a spray for house so it smells nice when im not feeling that great, works a treat
I’m so glad Joie.
What a great competition. Just what I need to take me somewhere else whilst dealing with 2 sickies…and the bonus will be not smelling the sick
I am loving the sound of these especially the hawaiin flowers one what a lovely review.
Thanks Melanie. The Hawaiian is beautifully sweet. It’s the one I use before people come over.
I love fragrance and all of these sound like they’d smell wonderful. If the Thai fragrance smells that fruity it’s going to conjure up images of that delicious plate of tropical fruit in your photo. I LOVE tropical fruit. But one of my all time favourite places to visit was Hawaii so I’m hankering to smell that one too. I suspect though, the New Zealand one will end up being my favourite. It sounds fresh and subtle enough that hubby is not likely to turn his nose up at it…..I hope!
The Thai is my ABSOLUTE favourite. Just enough to leave the air deliciously fragrant but not at all over-powering. I use it often too, because it takes me back to my trip — and the gorgeous fruit at breakfast, yes.
I was telling Lucy (in the comment above) that the New Zealand is like wide open grass fields. If I had to describe it with colour, I would say green. I guess that is why the bottle is green. HA!
Those photo’s are fabulous. It looks like it was a great trip.
The Ambi Pur frangrances sound like they would smell heavenly.
would love to try some new scents.. thank for the opportunity.
Oh, I miss Thailand so much! It will be a while before I get back there due to work and very small kids, but it would be lovely to have my house smell like Thailand. Especially when the other option is the scent of my stinky puppy dog…
Would love to see how they go. thanks
Was just looking at these the other day. I wanted to give them a go, but the price was a bit too much for my budget this fortnight. Would love to give them a go if they are on special in the near future… or if I win.
I have been to Thailand on several occasion and am reminded of those wonderful experiences when I smell exotic tropical fruits.
Confined to my home at the moment but dream of the places Suda Sudarsana talks of. Take me away……………
Looks like you had a wonderful, relaxing, inspiring time… It would be wonderful to give these lovely items a go… With a 5 month old, a 2 year old and a 4 year old my house is full of wonderful smells and I would like to replace them with any of these so I can dream of floating away to these exotic places…
Loved reading your blog on scent & Thailand. Sounds like you had a great time! Glad you have great memories of your childhood too!
A new smell is as good as a holiday!? Even better, since there’s no packing involved! They all sound lovely :0)
After last nights win to the All Blacks they may wish to change the NZ fragrance to one of 2 choices.
Choice 1 – muscle linament, dirt and sweaty rugby players or choice 2 for the rugby supporters who are still partying after the wine – champagne and cavair
I usually don’t like air fresheners but you’re making me want to give these ones a try!
What a great trip you had…
I think the only way I can travel is to close my eyes and dream of it….and scents certainly would help me get there.
i would love to have the opportunity. a sense of smell can take you to another place entirely
KEL. What a stunning post, my god you are beautiful.
X
Currently, my household is using the Hawaiian scented Ambi Pur. We would love to try all of these scents to mix and match according to our moods.
I am very house proud I love my home to be clean and smell great at all times
If these new fragrances from Ambi Pur bring back memories from any of these countries, whilst I am stuck at home doing housework – then I am sold!
Love to try these & see if they keep the doggie smells at bay!
Anything that helps remove the rotten odours my boys and man emit, embrace and fill the house with is welcomed by me
When our house smells nice, my wife is happy . . . . . I could sit & spray all day!!
Would love my home to smell of my travels, inspiring and a lovely day dream, thanks for a chance
Would love to try the new scents.
Scent-sational collection of inspiring fragrances! Love them!
It’s true about the wonders of the nose to enhance those everyday experiences. I remember when I was little, I’d come home from school and sometimes mum might be ironing. The smell of freahly ironed linen brings back wonderful childhood memories – a little escapism. How exciting to have childhood memories filled with an exotic location like Paua New Guinea – you are very lucky indeed Kelly. Oh and btw cute pic of you with your kitty cat.
There is nothing nicer than walking into your house and a delightful smell wafts past your nose. I get so many comments about how great my home smells, and I’ll be rushing out to get these new sprays.
The fruit look delicious!
Hey Kelly! Looks like lovely products…also looks like you had an amazing holiday girlfriend!! x
Oh you’ve made me looooooong to return to Thailand, love that country!

These sound delicious!
I hate coming home from work to a smelly house that has been shut up all day – would love to give these air fresheners a go they sound devine!
Anything would be better than the smell of the 2 men in my house at the moment ( 2 wet soaken dogs). You would think we were going through cyclone yasi again.Wet,windy and raining, locked up in doors, roads closed due to flooding.Need a whiff of fresh something
All that lovely scents…how Ambi Pur..fect!
Would love to have a nice smelling house! Thank you
These scents sound great. Am yet to travel to any of these places I can only dream sure they will only help. Maybe thats what I can do during mummy time (rest time)
