Since I had lollies left over after decorating my daughter’s birthday cake, I decided to see what I could make out of them.
Now, most of these creations aren’t all that child friendly because they have small sharp parts but they are fantastic for decorating birthday cakes and party tables.
To make all of these creations (above) you will need these things:
- Jube lollies (different shapes)
- Toothpicks
- Craft Glue
- Scissors
- Pipe cleaners (or chenille)
- Straws (bendable mouth piece)
- Boogly eyes (or is it googly eyes?)
- Lollipops
Ant
Materials:
Jube lollies, pipe cleaner, 1 toothpick
How to:
1. Cut 6 equal pipe cleaner lengths for the legs.
2. Thread three lollies on to a toothpick. Start with an oval lolly for the bottom, followed by a round lolly for the body, then a triangle lolly for the head.
3. Push the pipe cleaners into the body of the ant (three each side).
Lolly Spider
Materials:
Jube lolly, pipe cleaner
How to:
1. Cut 1 pipe cleaner into 6 even lengths.
2. Push pipe cleaners into lolly (3 each side).
Straw Spider
Materials:
Jube lollies, straw (with bendable mouth piece), 1 toothpick
How to:
1. Thread two lollies on to a toothpick and trim ends.
2. Cut the tops off bendable straws leaving about 1 cm on one end and 3cm on the other.
3. Screw the smaller end of the straws into the side of the lolly body of the spider (three each side).
Lollipop Spider
These lollipop spiders are inspired by House of Baby Piranha. Great for party bags and birthday party decoration.
Materials:
Lollipops, pipe cleaner, boogly eyes
How to:
1. Cut 1 pipe cleaner into 3 equal parts.
2. Using craft glue, attach the googly eyes.
3. Wind the 3 pipe cleaners around the top of the stick to create the 6 legs.
My son was stoked with this lollipop spider!
Kebab
Jube lollies, kebab stick
How to:
1. Thread lollies on to the kebab stick.
Butterfly
Materials:
Jube lollies, pipe cleaner, 1 toothpick
How to:
1. Thread a round or oval lolly into the middle of a toothpick.
2. On either side of the round lolly, thread rectangle lollies.
3. Cut to lengths of pipe cleaners for the antanne. Press into the top of the round lolly and curl the ends.
Lolly Flower
Materials:
Jube lollies, 2 toothpicks, kebab stick
How to:
1. Thread a round lolly onto the kebab stick.
2. Thread another triangle (or oval) lolly on top (for one of the petals).
3. Cut the 2 toothpicks in half.
4. Press the blunt side of the toothpick into the bottom of the triangle (or oval)
5. Press the exposed sharp end of the toothpick into the middle of the flower.
6. Repeat with the remaining 3 petals.
7. Thread a triangle green lolly on the kebab stick for the leaf.
Use it for:
- Birthday party centrepiece
- Dinner party centrepiece
- Birthday cake decoration
- Put a small plastic cover over the top and add a ribbon for a gift. Make sure you include a small parts warning.
Lolly People
This lolly “boy and girl” are very easy to make.
Materials:
Jube lollies, 1 toothpick, pipe cleaner
How to:
1. Thread lollies on to a toothpick for the face and clothes of the lolly people.
2. Trim excess toothpick with scissors.
3. Cut 2 toothpicks in half and use for the arms and legs.
4. Insert lengths of pipe cleaner for the hair.
This sort of lolly art would be a fun activity for 8 – 12 years olds.

I wouldnt mind a bunch of those flowers for mothers day. Love the 4th spider photo lol AHHHHHHHHHHH
Yes, it would make for a very colourful bouquet of flowers, wouldn’t it? I’m thinking, next b’day party I do, to make a punch to stick in the middle of the table. Would look GORGEOUS! He got so into the whole spider thing. I didn’t even have to give him cues. HA!
So cute and clever! I just love the flowers! Your little man is so adorable
Thanks. He was pretty happy doing a “lolly craft project” with Mummy
Laughing out loud here – looks like Mum and Son are doing some bonding over creating a great blog post! And it also looks like he’s becoming very attached to that lollipop spider.
Always a visual feast to read here, Kel!
It was a cute time
To a little boy, a LOLLIPOP decorated as a SPIDER…a winner!
Hi! What a delicious post! If I’m making kebabs for the kids, particularly of it’s not something heated, I use spaghetti! It holds up well but breaks easier on the off chance they fall on it. love the little boy and girl!
And yellow jubes are the yummiest!
GREAT idea Rita!!! Thanks so much for that tip. It’s quite hard to push the lollies so I’m not sure it would work with this craft but it would be brilliant for my fruit kebabs! Thanks so much for telling me.
How gorgeous! And how great to see something fun for boys – they really seem to miss out in the cuteness and fun department.
That’s true. I can tell you, my little boy was wrapped with it!
Your lolly crafts are gorgeous and very well timed – I am preparing for my daughter’s tenth birthday and am planning a maypole cake – your lolly dolls will be holding the ribbons. Thanks for your lovely inspiring ideas.
I’m so glad! Feel free to share the finished product on my fb wall if you like. I’d love t see it!!
