I love buttons. They are so cute and colourful so are a wonderful material for craft and decoration.

I purchased the buttons (shown above) from Spotlight. Second hand shops often sell buttons in bulk or use the ones that have been sitting in the sewing drawer for 5 years.
I designed two simple outlines for the children to fill in with buttons of different sizes and colours. I can’t remember when I’ve seen them so excited about a craft! They got straight into it, sifting through the buttons to find ‘just the right one’.
Here are my templates. You are welcome to print them out by clicking on the images.
You will need:
Template (Use mine or make up your own. Just keep it simple for best results) Buttons Clear Craft Glue
If you want to take this craft further, it can be easily turned into wall art.
You will need:
Canvas to size Paint for the background Cut out buttoned shape Extra buttons for a border Clear Craft Glue
Instructions
1. Paint a canvas and allow to dry.
2. Trace the template lightly on to the canvas.
3. Using craft glue, arrange buttons inside the outline. Alternatively, if you find it easier, decorate the buttons directly on to the paper template and then cut it out and glue it onto the painted canvas.
4. Frame the canvan with buttons (optional).
5. Hang!
I LOVED how they turned out!

That is so weird Kelly, I just finished a button craft with the kids last week. We used a canvas and traced all different shaped circles and then glued the buttons around the shapes. The kids loved it. Great minds think alike. xo
HA! That’s awesome Chrissy! I bet they turned out great. Did the children enjoy the activity?
They look great up on the wall. And I think the frame of buttons around the edge finished it off perfectly.
Thanks Catherine! I was wondering whether I should do a border or not and I’m glad I did!
Ooooh, buttons and glue, what could be better for a fun afternoon project?? My kiddos will love this!
